What is growing on your siding?

Understanding algae and exterior buildup

Green films and streaks on siding are often algae or other organic buildup. They commonly appear where shade and moisture linger, including sheltered walls and areas near landscaping. Dark marks may have other causes, so we inspect the surface rather than assuming every stain is algae.

Algae cleaning is different from removing oxidation, rust, mineral deposits, artillery fungus, or deteriorated paint. We identify the material and discuss which marks the house wash can reasonably improve. An exterior house wash is not an indoor mold inspection or remediation service.

What is our soft wash method?

Soft washing uses a suitable cleaning solution to treat organic buildup, followed by a controlled, low-pressure rinse. The cleaner does the main work on the algae so the job does not depend on blasting the siding with high pressure.

We choose the product, dilution, and application method for the surface, its condition, and the cleaner’s directions. Where appropriate, this may include a sodium-hypochlorite-based cleaner formulated for exterior washing. Contact time and careful rinsing matter as much as the application itself. We do not use the same treatment strength on every material.

Low pressure still needs careful technique. We control spray direction around siding seams, windows, doors, vents, fixtures, and other openings, and avoid directing water behind cladding. Fragile surfaces or failing coatings may require a different approach or repair before cleaning.

Our house washing process

How we soft wash your home

A clear plan for the surfaces, the treatment, and the results you can expect.

01 / INSPECT

Check siding and stains

We inspect the exterior material, visible condition, organic growth, and access. We note loose siding, damaged caulk, failing paint, and sensitive areas, then explain the agreed cleaning scope and any separate treatment needs.

02 / PREPARE

Prepare the surrounding area

We review nearby landscaping, outdoor furniture, fixtures, and drainage. Appropriate preparation may include wetting vegetation, moving accessible items, and protecting sensitive areas. We ask that windows and doors be closed and pets kept clear of the work area.

03 / APPLY

Treat organic buildup

We apply the selected cleaner using low-pressure equipment and controlled coverage. Product directions and surface care requirements guide the application. Sensitive finishes receive a small test area when appropriate.

04 / DWELL

Allow time for treatment

The solution is allowed to work for an appropriate contact time while we monitor the surface and conditions. We manage the application so cleaner does not dry on unsuitable surfaces, and reassess stubborn areas before repeating treatment.

05 / RINSE

Rinse with controlled pressure

We rinse away loosened grime and cleaning residue with pressure suited to the siding. Extra care is taken near openings and delicate trim. We also rinse affected nearby surfaces and vegetation as appropriate.

06 / REVIEW

Check the finished exterior

We review the agreed areas, address remaining treatable buildup, and explain any marks caused by oxidation, permanent staining, or pre-existing wear. We discuss future care based on the conditions around your home.

A method matched to your home

Vinyl siding, painted surfaces, masonry, stucco, and other exterior materials have different care requirements. We review coatings, joints, and surface condition before selecting a method. Wood, older finishes, and delicate materials may need special handling. Tell us about any manufacturer care instructions or known leaks before the estimate.

Your estimate identifies the surfaces included in the house wash. Ask about gutters, windows, concrete, decks, and other areas you would like included; those services can have a separate scope.

Before your house wash

Common questions

Will soft washing remove the green algae?

The treatment is intended to address algae and other organic buildup on compatible surfaces. Results vary with the material, buildup, and condition. We explain any limitations during your estimate.

Will every stain disappear?

Oxidation, rust, artillery fungus, mineral stains, and damaged coatings may not respond to a standard house wash. Some require separate treatment, and some marks may remain. Cleaning does not restore failing paint or repair siding.

How should I prepare?

Close windows and doors, tell us about leaks or damaged exterior areas, and clear accessible personal items from the work zone. Keep pets and people away during cleaning. We will discuss water access and any property-specific preparation before the appointment.

How often should my home be washed?

Shade, moisture, nearby vegetation, and exposure affect how quickly buildup returns. We can recommend a practical schedule after seeing your home. No cleaning treatment prevents future algae growth permanently.
